Artist's Statement: Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, I find myself drawn to images that evoke beauty in imperfection and which accept the natural cycle of birth, decay, and death.
About Reuel: Photography in one form or another has been at the forefront of my creative life for as long as I can remember. I was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa then moved to Johannesburg where I began my photographic career in professional equipment sales, advancing thereafter into advertising and editorial photo assignments. By the time I emigrated to to the United States in 1978, and took up residence in Chicago, I had been working as a freelance photo journalist and over the emerging years in my adopted homeland I evolved into a public-relations film maker and producer.
In 2005, my family and I moved to Santa Rosa, where I assumed ownership of a company that formulates and produces a unique optical surface cleaner called ROR which is used to remove residual residue from sensitive optical surfaces thereby restoring them to pristine viewing condition. (www.ror.net)
Fortunately this new incarnation has allowed me the time to reconnect with my love of photography and I've spent the last three years wandering around the bucolic streets and countryside of Sonoma County capturing images on an iPhone, as well as conventional digital cameras, then editing and enhancing those images using either Instagram or Adobe Lightroom applications to produce the end result. I've had recent exhibitions of my work in Santa Rosa and Petaluma and am currently working on a new theme of fine art images intended for gallery exhibition in various Sonoma County cities.
